Our Demands

The demands listed below were created by coworkers to address how CIS treats its workers & participants. With a union and a seat at the table, we will finally have the opportunity to make real, lasting change. We aim to negotiate a clearer and more consistent system regarding hours, pay, PTO, promotions, and discipline. This includes getting our schedule in a reasonable timeframe, clearer job expectations, and better support for transportation costs. We care about the quality of the services we provide, and we know that only through a union contract that addresses financial security and outlines clear expectations can we perform at our best.

The demands should include input from all coworkers who want to contribute. If something important to you isn’t on this list, share it here: issues survey.

🗓️

Secure Scheduling: As part of our job, we are expected to be flexible with our schedules to meet participants' needs, but this doesn’t mean our pay should be so unstable and our days so chaotic. Being on call at any moment is exhausting and inconsistent hours leads to inconsistent take-home pay. We deserve compensation at a rate that allows us stability and sustainability. CIS's Just-In-Time Scheduling system prioritizes revenue at the expense of coaches and participants alike. This system is even illegal for Philly retail workers, so it’s definitely not OK for disability services! Click here to learn more about Just-In-Time Scheduling.

💵

Better Wages, Benefits, and Equitable Promotion: One job should be enough. Everyone deserves an opportunity to grow and advance in their career.

🕰️

An Adequate Break Policy: Everyone deserves consistent and paid breaks to go to the bathroom, rest, and eat.

🚘

Fair Vehicle & Transit Reimbursement: Travel is a requirement of employment at CIS. Employees front the cost of running the business using their own vehicles and paying for transit out of pocket. We deserve fair compensation and a quick and easy process for reimbursement and coverage for repairs.

🎓

Education and Professional Development Opportunities: More education and professional development will improve care. Our participants deserve the best quality services, and that requires CIS to invest in its workforce. We deserve support with higher education, professional development, and skill-building opportunities.

👥

Participant-Centered Coaching: A Union will improve the well-being of its employees and participants. Poor working conditions and exhaustion should not be a requirement for providing disability services. Happier, healthier, fairly paid workers will provide better quality services.

💖

Safety and Dignity on the Job: CIS has a history of failing to adequately uphold a standard of safety and dignity for its workers. CIS employees and participants have been subjected to harassment, discrimination, and unsafe working conditions. We deserve safety and respect within CIS and in the community. Our lives are not disposable, and our dignity and well-being are non-negotiable.
